Every year, I plan and execute something major for my birthday… at 16 I had a huge Sweet Sixteen party, 21 I did Vegas (I probably slept about 5 hours that whole weekend), 22 was my golden birthday and needless to say it was cray, 25 I had a limo ride to Austin and took a boat to Devils Cove… and for 26 thought about how I could top the others just a tad? This resulted in me throwing a Met Gala “The Coldest Summer Ever” themed affair alongside my co-host, dear friend and other June baby @ksto_!
Now, for starters, I haven’t been excited at all to turn 26. 25 was one thing… the year ya really “felt like an adult”, but nothing slaps ya in the face more than the horrid seven words from your parents or my parents at least “Time to get on your own insurance”! Like what? I think my mom has called me crazy a million times during this process due to all the questions I’ve asked the insurance agents over the phone with her conferenced in even though I think my questions were valid lol “What is a deductible?” “What is HMO and PPO? What’s the difference?” “What’s the benefits of each?” “Why is my mom having me get catastrophic coverage?” Seriously, why the hell don’t they teach this stuff in school !? Anyways, nothing could take away this adulting stress more than throwing a huge party with friends, food, booze and music of course!
Our night ended up being beautiful and everyone showed up on theme to Ronin Art House ready to party into the morning!
I prepped for the night by having my makeup done by celebrity makeup artist @marcharveybeauty who has created stunning looks for clients such as Maria Menunos, Tamar Braxton, Yolanda Adams, Fantasia Barrino and more! He created and launched his line of amazing airbrush cosmetics, Marc Harvey Beauty Cosmetics, destined to make the everyday woman’s life easier with a few strokes (or sprays in this case)!
My outfit, from Shopbellababe , was a show stopper to say the least, but hilarious story when I first tried on the see-thru jumpsuit in front of my mom she 1. Went off about me dragging glitter all throughout her house and on her freshly manicured floors and 2. Promised me that if I wore it she would DEFINITELY NOT be coming. Needless to say SHE CAME and I luckily found a matching grey lingerie set to wear underneath so the goodies were hidden somewhat and I wouldn’t get the evil eyes from Allison Smith all night.(A little cheek action won’t hurt nobody mom)!
Upon arrival, guests (Allison Smith) were going to be even more shocked at the check-in gal she couldn’t attend last minute due to a work conflict whom was supposed to be completely bare and painted in loads of glitter at the entry! Soooo bummed she couldn’t come, but the party was still lit af with tunes by the best dj ever @athenzmedia, cocktails by @_curlyyjas and @mslightbright featuring a specialty “Spicy Summerita” cocktail on the rocks, delicious light bites by LeRoy’s Catering Company, the most chic and modern photo-booth from @xpressionsphotobooths and flavored @eatatmoodyice!
For everyone at the party that thought Moody Ice was a hit and also for all of you reading, Moody Ice is simply shaved ice that is prepared using all natural ingredients featuring innovative flavors and yummy toppings such as mini chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chips, condensed milk, strawberries, blueberries and more! At our party, we featured the flavors Lemon Lavender, Watermelon Mint and Banana Coconut…. Infused this with some liquor and it was fireeee! Such a hit, Y’all gotta go visit them in the Heights!!
The whole night was just such fun and a great escape for me to forget about the struggles of me entering my 26th year aka being kicked off my parents insurance, my recent car troubles with “Wide Body Wanda”, my horrid acne stress break outs (I seriously swear anytime I have something important I break out or get sick! Anyone else?), and just unwillingly crossing over to “real adulthood”!
Now, all I can do is keep living it up as much as I can so off to Jamaica to keep this party going nonstop!!
I want to thank all of my friends who so graciously helped me and Kristyn make sure our night was as beautiful as it was! To my boyfriend Ikechi thank you for listening to me bitching for hours and being OCD about the tables/table cloths, lightbulbs and so on loll I love you tho, Jailyn, Gabbi, Bria, My sister Alana, My cousin Kirsten, and Cherie y’all are the best!!
